The Allied Spouses Club Welfare Committee uses the proceeds from the International Charity Bazaar and other fundraisers to provide food and material support to 21 diverse, needy organizations. It also pays for a teacher in an after school care program in a very poor part of downtown Naples.
Money is not given to the recipients; instead, the Welfare Committee issues funds to volunteers who take care of individual charities. Volunteers shop regularly for foodstuffs, medical supplies and other needed items. They buy food for soup kitchens; support two children's homes; provide food for a handicapped men's home; and assist in a retreat for young men recovering from addiction. Volunteers also support two centres that provide before- and after-school care and meals for children who would otherwise be on the street.
